Although the exact dates of a Global Citizen Year will vary slightly from year to year, the arc of the experience will follow the timeline below. You will begin your Fellowship over the summer in your home community before arriving in-person in California in August. Ten days later, you will depart for your country, where you will stay until returning to the US in April. Once home, you will complete your year with a Capstone period back in your local community.
Many people think a gap year is a privilege for wealthy kids. Others think a gap year program is a remedial option for kids who are "off-track". Our mission is to reframe the traditional gap year as a Bridge Year. With Global Citizen Year you aren't falling into a 'gap'; instead you are crossing the bridge that will launch you from one life stage to the next. Let's stop calling it a gap year; and start calling it a bridge year.
