The Apprenticeship:

4 days a week, Monday through Thursday I would work at APAE, a School for Special-Needs Students. The specific school that I worked at was the largest in my region of Brazil, with around 600 students attending aging from 2 years old to 89 years old. I worked in helping the Physical education teacher as well as administering art projects to various groups of classes. From these simple tasks I was given, I had gained a new appreciation for everything I was able to do, no matter how simple.

When I had first learned I would be working at a special-needs school, I was intimidated and a little anxious if I’m being completely honest. After the first time visiting the school I realized all of my preconceptions were not the reality of the situation and that this new experience would be one of the most gratifying and humbling experience.
