Student of Mine

How delicious is our curiosity,
Guiding us through night?
Unaware of the troubles that are revealed in the daylight
A world aches
For a child as bright-eyed as you
Pain bolstered by the life the child has lived through
Yet, you are still beautiful, student of mine
Within a large landscape,
You are the shine
But like any light, we saw you flicker and vanish
Your stomach for curiosity
Now no longer famished
We look for your presence
Please, child, where have you gone?
We require your songs and delectable love
Men have manipulated your passions
Created a mockery of your truest intentions
Like a waning moon, time has clipped at your light
Forced you into darkness
Into misery
Into spite
How bitter is your wisdom,
Forged in a pit of fire?
But with each ache of your heart, you keep climbing higher
Higher
Higher
You are the truth, the now and the then
It’s high time that you make those amends
Welcome to the world, student of mine
Within a large landscape,
You are the shine
You are deliciously sour, bitter, and sweet
You are everything we are all striving to be
